Masters 2022

Masters 2022: The Masters begins in Augusta this week, and former champions as well as hopeful ones are in the field.

Hideki Matsuyama goes in as defending champion, but he has been suffering with neck and back injuries in recent weeks. And Tiger Woods – the five-time winner of this event – looks set to return to the scene of some of his greatest victories.

Several of the entrants will, of course, be flying the flags of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. There are major winners among them, as well as those seeking one of golf’s big four trophies for the first time.

A three-time winner on the PGA Tour, the 44-year-old’s best finish at The Masters was T4 in 2016. Two of the Englishman’s compatriots finished ahead of him that year, and both are playing in 2022.

Still rising up the rankings, the 27-year-old is chasing his first PGA Tour win. He finished T7 at The Masters in 2016, his best finish at one of the Majors.

The veteran Irish star has three major wins under his belt: the Open in 2007 and 2008, and the PGA Championship in the same year. The 50-year-old’s best finish at The Masters is T5 in 2002 and 2008.

Tyrrell Hatton

The 30-year-old has one PGA Tour event win. So far, he has finished in the top 10 at all the majors except for The Masters, where his best finish is T18, which came last year.

Shane Lowry

The Irishman famously won the Open in 2019, having come very close at the U.S. Open in 2016, finishing second to Dustin Johnson after a shocker of a final round.

Sandy Lyle

The 64-year-old hall-of-famer is a former Masters champion, winning in 1988 by one stroke from Mark Calcavecchia.

Robert MacIntyre

The 25-year-old is still in the early stages of his pro career, but he enjoyed a good week at Augusta last year, finishing T12.

Rory McIlroy

The Northern Irishman just needs The Masters on his resume to complete the career Grand Slam. He has never finished higher than fourth.
